In 2013, the Planning Group of the then Presbytery of Lanark proposed a deferred union between Carluke: St John's and Carluke: St Andrew's.  The actual union of the two congregations would only come into effect when both the then current ministers (Revs Roy Cowieson from St John's and Helen Jamieson from St Andrew's) demitted from their charges.

Mr Cowieson retired in 2013 and Mrs Jamieson retired as from the 31 August, 2024 thus meeting the criterion for the deferment to be lifted.  Thus on 1 September 2024, Carluke: Forest Kirk was created by the union of the two congregations.
